Black Bib Shorts by ATOUT
Velo Insider Rating
These are ‘The’ Black Bib Shorts by Atout. These are literally the only pair of shorts they have to offer… and it’s no wonder, because they fit and perform extremely well leaving no reason to produce any others!
PROS: Extremely comfortable bibs with a great chamois pad and superb looks!
CONS: No negatives… but maybe a white logo version to match some of their jerseys would look cool too?
Quality and Comfort
The Black bib shorts use a high quality Lycra Sport fabric which looks and feels great, you can feel the quality of manufacture as soon as you touch these shorts. With flatlock stitching you can see these are a pair of shorts that will go the distance, providing many years of trouble free cycling. Even the quality of their subtle ‘stealth black’ logo is very good and looks as though it should last for wash after wash without flaking or peeling anytime soon.
The legs feature a generous 5cm of silicone gripper to keep those leg cuffs securely in place when pumping out the watts on your favourite climb. The silicone pattern provides a good amount of grip on your skin without any discomfort or pulling. The Bibs are also made extremely well with solid stitching and a nice breathable mesh to allow your upper body to stay cool when riding.
The chamois is stated to be made by Dr Pads and it does a great job of providing saddle comfort without being too bulky. It seems to fit your sit bones well and stays in place thanks to the quality design of the shorts. It’s definitely a good pad for rides around 100km (60miles) and looking at the foam density it looks as though it should be comfortable for most regular cyclists doing 160km (100 miles).
The Sport Lycra fabric provides good support and ventilates well in warmer weather. The gripper does an excellent job at keeping the legs in place and the overall shape and fit of the shorts provide good performance for all kinds of cycling.
Overall these are a good performer, ideal for those looking to put in long days out riding and who want a short that not only looks great, but provides reliable performance too. As mentioned previously, the chamois performs extremely well with more than enough comfort for a variety of riding times and distances.
Size and Fit
Size on review is a Small (85-88cm waist) and fits true to size. There’s more than enough room for flex and movement to allow you to ride comfortably or to put a few pounds on without having to buy new shorts!
The dimensions are very good with nice length to the legs and bib straps, there are no issues with comfort or tight bib straps to distract you from enjoying your ride. Thanks to a good anatomical fit, the shorts fit close to your body without loose fabric or bunching up around your hips and groin.
They simply fit as you would expect a premium pair of bib shorts to fit.
Value for Money
Priced €84.00 (£75 GBP / $98 USD), Atout have created an extremely well priced Bib Short with some very nice features. The Dr Pads chamois is a good pad at this price point, and with high attention to detail and build quality, the Black Bib Shorts by Atout are great value for money.
We really like the subtle design and quality fabric of these shorts. They look good, they perform extremely well, and the Dr Pads chamois is more than enough to provide mile after mile of comfort. Overall these are an excellent bib short by a very unique brand.
