VCC02 Aerofit Jersey by Variant CC
Velo Insider Rating
Variant CC is a new cycling specific brand created by Sora Sportswear, a cycling clothing manufacturer based in Turkey.
We first saw their Aerofit jersey on Instagram and immediately fell in love with the colour and clever use of fabric for the arms and back of the jersey. Thanks to the guys at Variant CC they sent us a variety of items to review and first up is the VCC02 Jersey in Yellow.
As soon as we got this on and went for a ride, we knew this was going to be an instant favourite. When we found out the price we were literally left in shock! Read on to find out more…
PROS: Great use of materials, very good fit, the back is extremely breathable, it’s a superb climbers jersey.
CONS: No security zip pocket, but that’s no deal breaker.
Quality and Comfort
It’s amazing how many different ways manufacturers can use similar fabrics in such varied and interesting ways. As you can see this jersey uses a mix of high quality fabrics to create a very unique looking jersey. The quality of fabrics is very good, with a silky smooth printed lycra to the front and lightweight mesh to the underarms, side panels and back panel. Stitching seems to look good, only time will tell, it even has reinforced pockets.
With three good sized rear pockets made from the same lycra material as the front of the jersey, the pockets are well made and sturdy for most essentials. The arms feature some nice fitting cuffs with a good amount of grip to hold them in place. The overall quality feels very good in your hands and on your body while riding. Being a lightweight jersey the zip is plastic with a good sized puller for adjusting while riding. The jersey also features a generously sized gripper to the hem keeping the jersey securely in place while riding.
Being lightweight and slim fitting, the VCC02 jersey feels very comfortable to wear. In temperatures of 18°C upwards, you can really feel the benefits of the mesh panels allowing your body to breath while riding, reducing any sweat to a minimum of dampness. The arms and body have a great length which is just right for your average sized rider and it moves freely without any discomfort from the slim fit aero design.
Immediately you can see this jersey is designed for warmer climates with its highly ventilated mesh fabric which is designed to let out your body heat while riding, and it works very well. Hit the climbs in warmer temperatures and you can really feel the difference with your back staying cooler for longer. Even your armpit areas stay cooler thanks to this good use of lightweight mesh fabric.
The front being a smooth finish lycra provides a good amount of wind resistance without any overheating and provides a certain amount of aerodynamic advantages, cutting through the air without a flap or flick of fabric against your torso.
Size and Fit
We would advise you check their sizes carefully as the jersey on review is a size small (chest size: 86-92cm) however my chest size is 96cm and this fits perfectly. Their sizes would have me wearing a medium which would be too loose for my preference. So if you like comfort and a relaxed fit buy the correct size, if you like a slim aero fit that’s still comfortable to wear choose a size down.
Other than choosing between small or medium I have to say this fits extremely well. There’s nothing I would change with this fit, it’s great. The low cut neckline also provides an added advantage of cooler body temperatures, again highlighting this is a summer jersey very well suited to those looking to stay cool in and out of the saddle.
Value for Money
And here it comes… the “I cant believe it” factor… This jersey is priced at 199 Turkish Lira! That’s only £33 GBP or $44 USD for an extremely well design and well made jersey that looks cool and stays cool while riding.
Our only negative is there’s no zipped security pocket but that’s not a deal breaker at this price point.
Without a doubt this is extremely good value for money. You get a high performing jersey that could easily have cost 3 times this price by other brands and manufacturers. We suggest you check them out as soon as possible as at the time of writing this they’re on offer for just 179 Turkish Lira (£29 / $39).
We love it. It looks great, the mix of fabrics look cool and perform cool, it has gripper arm cuffs and hem, it has everything you would want from a summer jersey.
We’ll also be reviewing the same jersey in their white & black options very soon…
