We’ve thoroughly enjoyed reviewing Variant CC’s entire range of cycling kit and we’ve saved the best until last… this is the VCC05 Speed Suit. No matter the ride, this is an amazing all rounder which performs as good as it looks!

PROS: Extraordinary value for money, great fit, excellent fabrics, extremely comfortable to wear

CONS: None

Quality and Comfort

We can’t praise Variant CC & Sora Tekstil enough for the design and fabric choice of their kits, and their speed suit is for us, the cherry on the cake!

Their clever use of fabrics makes this an extremely good summer speed suit designed for both time trials, racing and even climbing, thanks to its lightweight materials and very well ventilated mesh back and arms.

The jersey features 3 good sized rear pockets with reinforced stitching and a solid full length zip. One of the great features to this speed suit is the ‘jersey-like’ top with zip front fastening, which gives you the feel of a jersey as well as the practicality. Overall this suit is very well made with a superb fit which shows the quality of design and cut.

Being a speed suit means there are no shoulder straps which makes it extremely comfortable to wear, and very cool to wear too thanks to the amount of ventilation. The arms fit well and stay in their place, while the legs too have a generous sized gripper band to keep them firmly in place.

Maybe it’s just coincidence, maybe it was the Falconer Aero Helmet by Sweet Protection we were testing at the time, but I’m sure it made me 1.5mph faster on my usual training routes! I’ve been feeling strong this year but there’s no doubt wearing aerodynamic clothing and an aero helmet certainly does the trick.

The VCC05 Speed Suit is comfortable for me in temperatures of 14°C upwards, yes that’s probably cold for a lot of you but I’m british and believe me 14°C is as warm as it gets some months! Thankfully I had the opportunity to get out in 24°C temperatures on a route called ‘The Durham Beast’, a rolling route of climb after climb. I can honestly say the ventilation aspects of all Variant CC’s jerseys are brilliant, they really do keep you cooler and their speedsuit is exactly the same.

When out on a fast ride, TT style, the aerodynamic properties can really be felt from the slim race cut form of the suit. The smooth lycra front provides great wind resistance and being smooth no doubt helps with the aerodynamic performance too.

The chamois is of average quality and may get a little uncomfortable after 60 miles or so. However we found the speed suit to be a much better fit than their standard bib shorts. Both have a slightly different cut and panelling design to them and we prefered the speed suit’s short area more than the bibs.

Size and Fit

The fit is perfect for me. Sizing is true to size and not one part of the shorts or jersey top area have any issues with sizing or fit. The suit has a good sleeve length with generous sized cuffs for both the sleeves and legs. I’d recommend sticking to their size guide unless you are abnormally short/tall or thin.

Value for Money

For 399 TL (Turkish Lira) (£65 GBP / $87 USD) it’s hard to believe you get this much for your money! You get good quality fabrics, extremely well thought out design to provide aerodynamics and ventilation, and it fits like a second skin. We dare to say this is most likely one of our favourite valued items this year!

Final Verdict

We love it! It looks fast, it’s very well designed and made, provides superior ventilation, fits extremely well, price is superb value and it’s suitable for any type of summer riding. We love it and it’s probably going to get worn a lot this summer! Check out Sora Tekstil and their brand Variant CC, you will not be disappointed!
